Ysguborwen is a privately owned home situated in Llwydcoed in Aberdare, in extensive landscaped grounds, surrounded by glorious countryside, yet accessible to Aberdare town centre. Ysguborwen provides high quality 24hr nursing care, including expert care for people living with dementia in our Lilac suite. Our team of highly skilled and attentive staff focus on the personal needs of each resident living with us and create uniquely tailored care plans for each and every one of them.
Our extensive lounges facilitate the connection with the outdoors, whether it’s bird watching, or enjoying the views down the valley. Views such as these can support reminiscence therapy around previous memories, as well as create a calming environment to sit and relax.

A specialised care team
All members of the Ysguborwen team take part in specialised dementia care training, in order that everyone can understand the challenges associated with living with dementia. By comprehending what it might be like to live with dementia, we can enhance our environment and practices to help enrich the lives of those in our care.
Dining and food at Ysgubowen
Food is a real source of enjoyment at Ysguborwen and our catering team ensure the dining experience is of an exceptionally high standard. We cater for individual choices and dietary requirements as needed and we specialise in presentation of pureed and moulded food for residents with varying degrees of swallowing difficulties.

Our central belief has always been that activities are fundamental to enriching people’s lives. Ensuring that a range of activities are on offer for all interests and abilities has a far-reaching positive effect both on the mind and the body.
Remaining active is important for us all and is a central focus of care planning here – our activity programme is designed to meet the needs, hobbies and particular interests of the individuals who live with us. Regular music therapy sessions are an essential element of our treatment and therapy programme, also with regular outings to nearby places of interest including garden centres and shopping.

We collaborate with relatives and friends to help create a partnership, ensuring the highest quality of care, whether it be general nursing or residential dementia care for their loved ones, as they become part of the Ysguborwen family.

Making a difference everyday
Making a difference to someone’s day is an enriching experience both for the residents and for the staff members. It can be as seemingly immaterial as peeling potatoes together, or bathing in the local swimming pool, taking a trip to the garden centre, or even fulfilling someone’s lifetime wish to visit the sea side again. Within the boundaries of acceptable risk, we will always strive to create positive and meaningful experiences. In order to gain a greater understanding of every individual, we collate life stories from both the resident and their family members. We can then specifically create our extensive wellbeing activity program, enabling our team to make that difference everyday and enhance the quality of life for everyone in our care.
